2009 Retirees

jerriebellbrion Jerrie Bell-Brion served Akron South Arlington, Kilbourne and Bunker Hill. Highlights of ministry include: blessings.  Will be living in Huber Heights, Ohio and retirement plans include: travel and visiting with family, gardening, sewing and oil painting.

Robert R. Bloomquist served Green Valley/Liberty Chapel, Utica/Martinsburg, Danville/Brinkhaven/Jelloway, Gambier Epworth/Hopewell/South Vernon, Leetonia/Washingtonville, Scio, Beach City/Dundee and Nankin Federated. Highlights of ministry include: multi-church charges, preaching, development of relationships and children’s ministries.

Don C. Cummings served Chippewa Church at the Lakes, Alliance Beechwood, Huron and Mayfield.  Highlights of ministry include: offering Christ to the world in four congregations. Retirement plans include: leading spiritual renewal retreats.

Diehl served Lakefork, Wadsworth, Northampton, Fields, Norwalk First and Hudson.  Highlights of ministry include: pastoral exchange program, chairing conference committee, starting “The Search for the Christ Child” program.  Will be living in Hudson, OH and retirement plans include: learning to relax and traveling to visit children.

Dale E. Epple served East Glenville, Adena/Georgetown/Harrisville, missionary to Sierra Leone Africa, New Haven, Cleveland Faith, Cambridge Christ/Beckett, Circle of Friends Coop. Parish, Winona, Rock Creek/Dorset, Willard Grace, Lorain Delaware Ave., Lorain Lighthouse and Mogadore. Highlights of ministry include: Missionary service, working with youth, preaching, teaching, personal counseling, revivals and crusade evangelism. Will be living in Mogadore, Ohio.  Retirement plans include: pastor at Mogadore UMC.

John L. Ferris served Canton Church of the Lakes associate, Orangeville/Vernon, Sharon Center, Wintersville, Kilbourne, Lorain Delaware Ave. and Alliance Christ. Highlights of ministry include: preaching, clergy fellowship and support groups. Will be living in North Canton, Ohio. Retirement plans include: travel and time with family.

afisher Anne L. Fisher served Poe/Waltz, St. Paul’s Moore Memorial, Kenmore, Firestone Park, Clearview and Canal District.  Highlights of ministry include: leading merger process and helping churches plan for the future. Will be living in Akron, OH and retirement plans include serving the local church, self-care, continuing to learn and grow and possible volunteer.

Warren Campbell-Gaston served Willoughby, Westlake, Cove, Delaware Asbury and Willoughby.  Highlights of ministry include: leading a church through the Reconciling Congregation process, youth mission trips and organizing symposiums and conferences. Will be living in N. Ridgeville, OH and retirement plans include: teaching, preaching, leading retreats and writing.

Deborah E. Gorman served North Olmsted, Westlake and Cleveland First. Highlights of ministry include: children’s and youth ministry, serving on boards and agencies and workshop and lab leadership.  Will be living in Sheffield Village, OH and retirement plans include: consulting, travel, grandchildren and family.

Ricky L.  Harvel served Utica. Highlights of ministry include: friendships, growth in the Lord and mission trips. Will be living in Louisville, Ohio. Retirement plans include: serving as a Bible teacher in China.

John Richard Hendricks

John Richard Hendricks served Iberia/Martel, Ashland First, Nova, Elyria First, Sebring, Uhrichsville First and Mentor. Will be living in Scio, OH and retirement plans include: travel, liturgical planning work and being active in music groups.

J Dennis Henkle

J. Dennis Henkle served Willoughby, Brookfield, Flat Rock Ebenezer, Lorain Delaware Ave., Birmingham and Rittman. Highlights of ministry include: serving on district and conference committees, youth camps and mission trips. Will be living in Monroeville, OH and retirements plans include:  “ live life with my wife as we are best led by God.”

Gary Hicks

Gary A. Hicks served Newport/Beech Grove, Bloomville/Republic Trinity/Lykens, Richmond and Tiffin St. Paul. Highlights of ministry include: weddings, funerals, youth events, baptisms and the variety offered in ministry. Will be living in Tiffin, OH and retirement plans include: employment, family and travel.

James A. Hoff served Bowerston: First/Conotton/Leesville, Chapel Hill/Fletcher-Moffetts/Greenbrier, Adena/Georgetown/Harrisville, Belmont West Parish Belmont, Bridgeport  First/West and Bellaire South. Highlights of ministry include: seeing people accepting Christ and Lord, baptizing infants and weddings in unique settings. Will be living in Bridgeport, Ohio and retirements plans include: working around the house, fishing, bowling and ministry.

Charles Hofmeister

Charles Hofmeister seved Asbury Greater Parish, Lorain First and Twinsburg. Highlights of ministry include:  “sick were healed, the blind see and prisoners of Satan were released….”  Will be living in Aurora, OH and retirements plans include: spending more time with family and friends.

Charles B. Kettering served Baxter Ridge and Connotton.  Highlights of ministry include: friendships, growing in faith, seeing people come to Christ and “ knowing God allowed me to be part of it. “  Will be living in Carrollton, OH and retirement plans include: preaching, working and travel.

Donald E. LaFaber served New Springfield, Akron Faith, Va Medical Ctr, Batavia, NY, Veterans Hosp., Martinsburg, WV and Dept. of Vet. Affairs.  Will be living in Martinsburg, WV.

Robert Ludwig

Robert J. Ludwig served Werner, Crystal Park, Westbrook Park, Lorain Faith, Akron Faith & Atwater, Danville/Brinkhaven/Jelloway, Portage Faith, Pearl Road and Marengo.  Highlights of ministry include: church advocacy, ecumenical ministries, service clubs, travel and mentoring. Will be living in Grafton, Oh and retirement plans include: rest, working with Ohio Council of Churches and social gospel ministry.

L. Chris Martin served Westfield, Centerburg, Bucyrus First and Epworth Euclid.  Highlights of ministry include: long pastorates, colleagues in ministry, serving on conference boards and agencies and being part of the connectional system. Will be living in Ravenna, OH and retirement plans include: remaining open to God’s direction and spending time with family.

Robert Mathias

Robert D. Mathias served Bowerston First charge, Uhrichsville Grace, Pleasant Grove, Thompson, Bucyrus Woodlawn and Roxford.  Highlights of ministry include: spiritual and physical growth in congregations, mission trips and outreach.  Will be living in Canal Winchester,OH and retirement plans include: working with young pastors, golf, travel and time with family.

Jeffrey W. Matthews served North Mentor, Bay, Apple Creek, East Liverpool First, Maple Hts., Shelby First, Brunswick and Green Valley.  Highlights of ministry include: Christmas productions, singles groups, work camps, working with youth, music, conference boards, and sharing ministry with wife. Will be living in Westerville, OH and retirement plans include: connecting with universities, time with family and new challenges.

Larry F. Morrison served Creston/Canann, Medina, Bedford, Akron District superintendent and North Canton Faith.  Highlights of ministry include: community service organizations, ministry in India, sharing the gospel all around the world. Retirement plans include: continue working in India and traveling.

sallynelson

Saranne Price Nelson-Olin served Savannah, Lorain First, United Theological Seminary, Akron Wedgewood, South Euclid/South Euclid Hillcrest, and Wooster/Firelands District superintendent. Highlights of ministry include: first woman pastor in every East Ohio church she served, helping to establish Lorain UM Ministries, Logos program, merger of South Euclid and Hillcrest, serving on conference and district committees and serving as journal editor. Will be living in Lakeside, Ohio and retirement plans include: continue to serve God, serving on boards, travel and visiting family and friends.

Anita L. Rayburn served Elyria Asbury/Lorain Wesley Assoc., Faith, North Industry, Canton St. Paul’s and Warren Tod Avenue. Highlights of ministry include: Serving a cross racial appointment and being able to walk with people throughout their lives. Will be living in Cuyahoga Falls, OH. Retirement plans include time with family, taking classes and maybe part-time work.  

George Roberts

George W. Roberts served Canton Trinity and Church of the Saviour. Highlights of ministry include: church renovations and restructuring and Vacation Bible school for inner city children. Will be living in Uniontown, OH and retirement plans include: some work, travel and getting pilot’s license.

Roger E. Smith served Louisville Christ, Strongsville, North Industry, Concord Hope Ridge, Mansfield First, Wooster and Norwalk First.  Highlights of ministry include: Stephens Ministry, Disciple Study, Praise Bands, Emmaus, teaching at licensing school.  Will be living in Huron, OH and retirement plans include serving as director of Religious Life at Lakeside.

Lester G. Wilson served Bucyrus Circuit, Bellville, Williamsfield/ Cherry Valley, North Bloomfield/Colebrook, Warren First Assoc, Ohltown, Boardman Lockwood and Epworth Center.  Highlights of ministry include: Working with families, Bible studies, work camps, community service, traveling and serving at Epworth Center. Retirement plans include: spending time with family, wintering down south, time to travel, fish and hunt.

Wanda L. Wilson served Dynamic Rural Parish: Dorset/Richmond, Gustavus Fed., East Fairfield, Superintendent, St. Clairsville/Southern Hills District. Highlights of ministry include:  working with people in the local churches, serving rural areas and teaching and participating in Disciple Bible Study.  Retirement plans include: time with family, travel and fishing and hunting.

Dal J. Won served Dorset/Richmond, Butler Cooperative Ministry, Columbia Station and United Methodist Publishing House. Highlights of ministry include: organizing cooperative ministries and publishing Korean Interpreter Bible.  Will be living in Franklin, TN and retirement plans include: work for the publishing house and writing.

hwoodruff Henry F. Woodruff served Bucyrus Mt. Zion, Bay, Bunker Hill, Canal Fulton, Lorain Delaware Ave., Hudson, Boardman First and Chardon.  Highlights of ministry include: serving on boards and agencies, launching an urban cooperative parish and pastoral care and teaching.  Will be living in Fairport Harbor, OH and retirement plans include: part-time ministry in some capacity, writing for publication and traveling.
